Beeches in Glen Lyon (Scotland)
Woodcut printed in colors, 1937, edition unknown but probably fewer than 25 impressions. 12 5/8 x 11 3/4 in. Signed and titled in pencil. This impression is numbered "17" from the edition. This is a fine impression in very good condition. There's paper tape attached to the extreme edges of the sheet on all sides, something often seen with Cheyne's prints. The margins appear to be full. This outstanding print is exemplary of Cheyne's stylish command of the woodcut medium. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art and exhibited in London at the Redfern Gallery and Colnaghi. His prints appear infrequently on the market these days.

Mountain Burn
Woodcut printed in colors, undated (probably done in the 1930s), edition probably 20. 11 1/2 x 9 3/8 in. Signed and titled in pencil. With the number "2" in pencil to the right of the title. This is a fine impression in fine condition. The margins measure about 5/8" on the top and sides but this is probably the full sheet as printed. There's incidental inking at right and below in the margins from the printing process, all well away front the image. Cheyne studied at the Glasgow School of Art and he began exhibiting his woodcuts in 1926 with the Society of Artist Printers in Glasgow. His unique style has an art deco look to it and he was definitely influenced early on by the Japanese printmakers. His work is rare today. His wife, Jessie Isabel Garrow, was also a printmaker.
