Lithograph, 1852, Delteil 2295 (only state ?), edition unknown. 9 3/4 x 8 1/2 in. Signed on the stone with the artist's initials. This is a superb "sur blanc" impression with wide margins. The condition is excellent. This is one of eleven plates from the series "Le Public du Salon." It was published in Le Charivari, May 7, 1852. (Oddly, there are no states described for this image. Most of the other prints from this series have two states; one before letters and one with.) Ex-collection: Otto Gerstenberg (Lugt 2785).

Lithograph, 1834, Delteil 86, edition unknown. 7 15/16 x 11 in. Unsigned. This is a fine, rich impression as published in La Caricature, No. 201, September 11, 1834. The paper is a white wove and the condition is fine apart from remains of old paper hinges at the top corner. This is the full sheet. This memorable early work shows King Louis-Philippe dressed up as a clown while the curtain comes down. He points to the statue depicting blind justice and the scene has the look of ancient Roman theater. The title of the print is derived from the famous last words of François Rabelais, "I am going to seek a great perhaps; draw a curtain, the farce is played out." From the collection of "MKL," not in Lugt.

The margins are full and the condition is very good. (There's a small smudge just below the caption at bottom.) This print is from the series "Croquis d'été," which is a series of entertaining lithographs about casual summer activities in France during the 1850s. Ex- collection: Gabriel Cognacq (Lugt 538d) and Henri M. Petiet (see Lugt 2021a).

The condition is excellent. This is one of eleven plates from the series "Le Public du Salon." It was published in Le Charivari, May 16, 1852. (This popular edition was printed on newsprint.) The condition is fine other than for a tiny smudge near the text at bottom and slight age toning at the extreme edges of the sheet. This print is from the series, "Croquis d'été." Two very well dressed women are walking along the Seine in a heat wave on a Sunday during the summer. Their expressions convey the intensity of the moment. Ex-collection: Gabriel Cognacq (Lugt 538d) and Henri M. Petiet (see Lugt 2021a).

The condition is very good other than for a tiny replaced loss in the extreme top corner margin and a couple of minor stains at the extreme top edge of the sheet. This outstanding print is plate 19 from "Croquis d'été (Summer Sketches). The scene depicts a hot summer day in France where their grape vines are suffering as well as the couple trying to help them. Ex-collection: Gabriel Cognacq (Lugt 538d) and H.M. Petiet (see Lugt 2021a).

From the series "Croquis d'été," this print is the story of the thin polite gentleman on the right asking the large, muscular fellow on the left for the money he is owed. This is a fine impression printed on white wove paper ("sur blanc") with full margins. The condition is excellent. This is plate 15 from the series, "Croquis d'été." Impressions were also printed on newsprint paper in Charivari for this series, with text on the verso.) This beach scene is about the wife expressing concern about the power of the waves and how one big one could wash them away. Ex-collection: Gabriel Cognacq (Lugt 538d) and H. M. Petiet (see Lugt 2021a).
