Etching, 1905, edition unknown. 7 7/8 x 11 3/4 in. Signed and dated in pencil. This is a superb impression printed on cream wove paper. The margins are full. The condition is excellent. This classic Dutch countryside view reminds us of the etchings of Rembrandt, and more recently, the work of James Ensor. Derkzen van Angeren's work is discussed in Cliff Ackley's recent publication, Holland on Paper in the Age of Art Nouveau, (2014), page 173.

Two skulls and a Book (Memento Mori)
Etching, 1909, edition at least 12. 13 x15 1/2 in. Initialed and dated in the plate, lower right. Signed, dated and numbered ("12") in pencil. This is a superb impression of this large, exquisitely detailed work. The margins are wide and the condition is fine. He started out as a decorator of Delft pottery and ultimately taught printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam from 1917-1943. He moved to Canada after the war and lived there the rest of his life. His etchings are discussed on pages 172-173 of Holland on Paper in the Age of Art Nouveau (2014) by Cliff Ackley.
