The condition is fine apart from traces of the original hinges showing at the top corners, recto. This was a presentation print for the Print Club of Albany. Impressions are cited in the following museums: The National Gallery of Art, The Smithsonian American Art Museum, The Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco and the Worcester Art Museum, and others.

Drypoint and aquatint, 1937, Sanchez 349, edition 25. 11 x 14 in. Signed and titled in pencil. This is a superb impression with full margins. The tonalities in the sky are beautifully rendered evoking an intensely spiritual image. The condition is fine apart from a minor soft wrinkle in the extreme upper left corner of the margin. This is an early, uncommon print. According to Phillips Kloss, "prayer was the humble aspect of the Penitente rituals..." (See page 32 of Gene Kloss Etchings (1981).

The margins are somewhat narrow and the condition is fine. "Kloss considered this print to be her most perfect aquatint." (See page 29, Volume II, of the recently published catalog raisonne of Kloss prints by Gene Sanchez (2009).

According to the catalogue, "Kloss believed this to be her first successful attempt at aquatint." This is a captivating arts and crafts image.
