Gloucester Wharves (Massachusetts) - MEYEROWITZ

Gloucester Wharves (Massachusetts)
Etching printed in colors, circa 1920-1925, small edition. 7 7/8 x 9 7/8 in. Signed in pencil and also titled in pencil along the lower margin. This is a fine, beautifully inked impression printed from multiple plates. (There are two registration marks on the edges of the image, center.) The margins are full with tack holes showing on all sides. The condition is excellent. Meyerowitz moved to Gloucester in 1919 and there experimented with color etching with Ellen Day Hale and Gabrielle de Veaux Clements. His superb color printmaking is discussed at length in A Spectrum of Innovation, Color in American Printmaking 1890-1960 by David Acton (1990).

Modern New York - MEYEROWITZ

Modern New York
Etching, undated (1920s), edition 50 12 x 9 7/8 in. Signed in the plate. Signed, numbered and titled in pencil. This is a superb impression printed on cream wove paper. The margins are full and there are tack holes around the sheet edges from drying. Some wrinkling in the margins. This exemplary New York print shows Meyerowitz as a standout modernist in the tradition of John Marin. He produced some color etchings as well.
