Place Ste. Pharailde, Ghent (Het Veerleplein te Gent) - JULES DE BRUYCKER - etching

JULES DE BRUYCKER
Belgian, (1870-1945)

Etching, 1906, LeRoy 7 (iii/III), edition unknown but probably fewer than 50. 8 5/8 x 14 1/2 in. Signed and dated in the plate. Signed and titled below the image in pencil. This is a fine impression printed on cream-colored Japanese paper. The margins are full. The condition is quite good apart from occasional scuffs in the outer margins. This wonderful, early work reminds of the great Flemish tradition of the of kermis, or village fair, which was made popular early on by Breughel and others. A pen and ink drawing exists for this print and is now in a private collection. Other works by de Bruycker are currently available.      $1,500
