Flamingos - HENRI VERSTIJNEN - woodcut printed in colors

HENRI VERSTIJNEN
Dutch, (1882-1940)

Woodcut printed in colors, circa 1931, edition unknown. 19 3/8 x 13 5/8 in. Initialed in the block and signed and titled in pencil. A superb impression of this rare print. The margins are wide and the condition is fine. (There's a small repair to the upper right margin corner.) Verstijnen started out as a glass and ceramic designer in Gouda and then Maastricht. He later established himself in the Hague (1918) at the Pulchri Studio and with "Haagse Kunstkring" and specialized in printmaking and paintings of floral and animal subjects. An important retrospective exhibition was held in 2006-07 at the Drents Museum and also at the Museum Mestag, both in Holland. His large woodcuts are exceptional and also quite rare. Flamingos was printed from four blocks and is so inscribed.       SOLD
