The Cabstand (Une Matinée d'Hiver au Quai de l'Hôtel-Dieu) - FELIX BUHOT - etching, drypoint and traces of aquatint and roulette

FELIX BUHOT
French, (1847-1898)

Etching, drypoint and traces of aquatint and roulette, 1876, Bourcard-Goodfriend 123 (xi/XV), edition unknown. 9 3/8 x 12 9/16 in. Signed and dated in the plate, lower left. Signed with the large red owl stamp in the lower right (Lugt 977). Signed on the verso at the top with another red stamp. Also, this print is signed in pencil and has the following inscription by the artist, "Epreuve d'essai du 2e Etat, après... marges... et avant la planche coupée (that word crossed out and instead) rognée." This is a superb impression of this rare, highly desirable state with the sketches along the bottom of the plate. The paper is a medium weight, cream-colored Japanese and the margins are wide measuring about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4" all around. The condition is excellent. This is the finest example of the Cabstand we have offered in many years. Pencil signed impressions are rare.      SOLD
