The Source - WILLIAM E. C. MORGAN
Medium: engraving
WILLIAM E. C. MORGAN
British, (1903-1979)
Engraving, 1927, edition 50. 11 1/8 x 5 1/2 in. Initialed in the plate. Signed, titled and dated in pencil. This is a superb impression with full margins. The condition is fine. Arguably Morgan's most famous print, "The Source" was certainly inspired by the three years he spent studying at the British School in Rome. He had won the "Prix-de-Rome" in 1924. There is no proper catalogue raisonné of his prints but the Georgetown University Library presented a retrospective of his work in 1994. He is known to have produced the vast majority of his fifty or so prints between 1924-1938.
