The margins are narrow (about 1/2" all around). The condition is fine. Eekman developed his own expressionist woodcut style with an emphasis on the figurative. HENRY KALLEM American, (1912-1985) Woodcut, 1940s, edition unknown but probably quite small. 9 1/2 x 22 1/4 in. Signed and titled in pencil. This is a fine impression on thin Japanese paper. The margins are substantial. The condition is very good apart from a small area of discoloration in the lower right corner, just to the image and a bit of toning in the upper left corner margin area. Kallem was a WPA artist. An account in Who Was Who in American Art states, "After Kallem won First Prize in the 1947 Pepsi Cola Exhibition for his painting 'Country Tenement,' Life Magazine ran an article, 'Freak Painting Prizes' (August, 1948) recounting the controversy over awards being given to what some critics considered unintelligible modern art." $550 |

This is a fine impression of a rare and remarkable print. The condition is very good. Mielatz is best know for city views but here he created a memorable, atypical work combining refined technical achievement with subtle color variations. The work was printed by the artist and there's a pencil reference that this is a trial proof for an unknown edition. $2,000 |

JORIS MINNE Belgian, (1897-1988) Woodcut, probably 1930s, edition 100. 10 3/8 x 8 in. Initialed in the block and signed in pencil, lower right. This is a fine impression on wove paper (the watermark reads PANNEKOEK, HOLLAND). The margins are full and the condition is very good other than a mild crease in the lower right margin area. Minne was an important Belgian expressionist printmaker who was the co-founder of Lumiere (1919). He was president of the Academie royale de Belgique in 1969.
