Leidschegracht, Amsterdam Etching and aquatint, 1920s-1930s, Timmerman CB 118M, edition unknown. 13 1/4 x 17 in. Signed and titled in pencil. This is a fine, richly inked impression printed on sturdy wove paper. The margins are full. The condition is very good. Brandenburg specialized in these atmospheric views along the canals and some of his work, including this plate, was printed in colors. He lived and worked in Amsterdam and studied with Pieter Dupont and A.J. Derkinderen. His best works ranks with that of Witsen and Everbag. Between 1615 and 1658, this canal was the southern border of the city of Amsterdam. It's named after the city of Leiden. $750 |

Singel (Amsterdam) Etching, 1920s, Timmerman CB101M; edition perhaps fifty impressions. 10 x 12 1/2 in. Signed and titled in pencil. This is a fine, rich impression in very good condition. The margins are adequate but have been trimmed. There's slight discoloration on the verso. Like Willem Witsen, Brandenburg specialized in architectural etchings with Amsterdam as a favorite subject. Singel is a very old canal which encircled the city in the Middle Ages. It served essentially as a moat until 1585 when Amsterdam expanded. SOLD |
