Along the Nile - FRANK

Along the Nile
Woodcut printed in colors, 1920s, edition unknown but probably about 100. 9 1/8 x 11 in. Signed in pencil. This fine impression on thin Japanese paper is inscribed "No.82." The margins are wide and the condition is fine. This wonderful print combines just the right paper with subtle colors and inking to produce a dramatic vista.

Winter Scene - FRANK

Winter Scene
Woodcut printed in colors, circa 1920-30, edition unknown. 8 1/2 x 17 1/4 in. Signed in pencil, lower right. This is a superb, luminous impression printed on thin Japanese paper. The condition is quite good apart from a vertical crease showing in the left and right margins, probably from having been folded under at some point. The margins are full and untrimmed. This exceptional, large woodcut shows the artist at his best. Leo and his twin brother, Hans, both studied at the School of Applied Arts in Vienna and later at the Vienna Academy. Their woodcuts were clearly influenced by Japanese prints and they were superb technicians. The celebrated American collector, Robert O. Muller, was a major buyer of woodcuts by these two artists.

Working the Fields - FRANK

Working the Fields
