Conversation Etching, aquatint, roulette and drypoint, undated (circa 1930), Smith I-35; edition 30. 7 3/4 x 5 5/8 in. Signed in pencil. This is a fine impression printed with tone. The margins are full and the condition is excellent. Ganso was a fine draughtsman and this subject is typical of his best work. Ganso shared a New York studio with Jules Pascin and they became great friends during the late 1920s. The influence of Pascin is clearly evident in this and others works. SOLD |

Electric Sign (New York) Lithograph, 1927, Smith L31, edition unknown. 17 1/8 x 11 1/2 in. Signed on the stone, lower left. Signed in pencil. This is a superb impression of this uncommon print. The margins appear to be full and untrimmed and the condition is fine. (The back of the sheet shows a printed architectual rendering on the Maison aux Champs-Élysées floor plan.) This work is also titled New York Rooftops from Studio. (The Smith catalogue records 109 lithographs with a few fine NYC views and other images of upstate NY landscapes. Figure studies tend to predominate his work in this medium.) $1,500 |

Self Portrait with Nude Wood engraving, 1930, Smith R-58; edition 50. 10 1/8 x 8 in. Signed in pencil, lower right. Here we have a fine impression printed on a cream-colored Japanese paper. The margins are full and the condition is fine apart from a slight rubbed spot below the image at left. This print was done at the time Ganso shared his studio-apartment with Jules Pascin. it was located at 900 Sixth Avenue in New York. This is a stellar self portrait with the artist depicting one of his favorite subjects - the female nude. $1,400 |
