Battling Centaurs (Kampfende Centauren) Etching and aquatint, 1881, Singer 55 (ii/II), edition unknown. 16 3/8 x 10 1/2 in. Signed in the plate. This is a fine impression printed on chine applique. The margins are full. The condition is very good apart from two stains in the outer right margin. This is plate 5 of 12 from Klinger's Opus IV; Intermezzi. The set was conceived of in 1879 and the plates were published in 1881. The artist was interested in mythology and centaurs appear in other etchings in this series. Klinger was only twenty-one when he started working on Intermezzi. SOLD |

Bear and Pixie (Bar und Elfe) Etching and aquatint, 1881, Singer 52 (ii/II), edition unknown. 16 1/2 x 11 1/4 in. Signed in the plate. This is a fine impression on chine applique. The margins are full and the condition is quite good apart from minor stains in the right margin. This is plate 1 of 12 from Opus IV; Intermezzi. This print is a superb example of his work and a technical tour de force of intaglio printmaking. SOLD |

By the Sea (Am Meer) Etching and aquatint, 1881, Singer 53 (iii/III), edition unknown. 9 x 16 in. Signed in the plate below the image, lower left. This is a fine impression on chine applique with full margins. The condition is also fine. This is Plate 2 of 12 from Opus IV; Intermezzi. This compelling image is from one of Klinger's best know series of prints and the set was dedicated to the engraver and art dealer, Hermann Sagert. Both Dali and De Chirico were influenced by Klinger's innovative work. In particular, this romantic image relates to an 1809 painting by Caspar David Friedrich entitled "Monk by the Sea" which is in Berlin. SOLD |

This is a fine impression with full margins printed on chine applique. The condition is also fine. This is plate 12 from the series Intermezzi which was conceived of in 1879 and the plates were etched in 1881. Kaethe Kollwitz greatly admired Klinger's work and delivered a eulogy at his funeral.
