Anemones - YOSHIJIRO URUSHIBARA
Medium: woodcut printed in colors
YOSHIJIRO URUSHIBARA
Japanese, (1880-1953)
Woodcut printed in colors, circa 1915, edition probably 100. 12 x 7 7/8 in. Signed in pencil, lower right. Here we have a superb impression with the colors especially vibrant. The margins are full and the condition is excellent. Urushibara's best work was a group of floral woodcuts of which this is a notable example. The artist moved to England at a young age and lived there as well as in France until 1934. He was very active with the European color woodcut artists at the time and collaborated with Frank Brangwyn on several prints.
