Etching, 1929, LeRoy 163 (i/II), edition 100 plus only a few proofs of the rare first state. 23 7/8 x 19 in. Signed, titled and dated in pencil; also inscribed "epr.1 etat" (proof, first state). This is a superb, early impression printed on Japanese paper. The margins are quite wide and probably full. The condition is very good apart from traces of an old adhesive on the extreme sheet edges, verso. This dramatic, richly inked impression of the first state is before additional figures were added in the foreground in front of the cathedral. De Bruycker produced a few other prints on this scale but this is among the finest. Antwerp Cathedral is a tour de force of etching medium and a truly inspired Belgian print from the era.       SOLD
