Improvization I - EDMOND VAN DOOREN - linocut

EDMOND VAN DOOREN
Belgian, (1896-1965)

Linocut, 1920-21, small edition (perhaps 50 impressions). 10 x 7 1/4 in. Signed in pencil, lower right. This is a fine impression in fine condition with full margins. Van Dooren's importance as part of the Belgian avant-garde cannot be underestimated. This work was published by the Antwerp circle of artists known as Het Overzicht (The Overview) of which Jozef Peeters and Michel Seuphor were members. They also published works by Karel Maes. van Doesburg (De Stijl) was a prominent influence. This potent image represents the best work of the artist.      SOLD
