Woodcut, circa 1920, very small edition. 6 5/8 x 7 1/2 in. Signed in pencil, lower right of sheet. This is a fine impression printed on tissue-thin Japanese paper. The margins are irregular but are also untrimmed. Very good condition. (There's some discoloration in the outer margins and minor losses at the lower edge of the sheet.) This is a rare print as are all of de Smet's expressionist woodcuts. Along with Constant Permeke and Frits van den Berghe, de Smet is one of the preeminent Belgian expressionist painters.      SOLD
