Marais de la Burbanche (Grande Planche); Marsh of the Burbanche (Large Plate) - ADOLPHE APPIAN
Medium: etching

ADOLPHE APPIAN
French, (1818-1898)
Etching, circa 1868, Curtis & Proute 49; Jennings 45; edition unknown. 19 3/8 x 13 5/8 in. Signed in the plate, lower right. Signed in pencil, lower left. This is a superb, atmospheric impression printed on Japanese paper. The margins are substantial and the condition is very good. (There's some soft rippling showing in the margins.) This large and majestic print depicts a marsh on the Ain River in the vicinity of Lyon, France. Appian etched a much smaller version of this subject which also appeared in 1868. Pencil-signed prints by Appian are not especially common and this print is an exceptional example of his work. SOLD
