Cacoletière Assise Etching and drypoint, 1875, Bourcard-Goodfriend 58 (states 2 and 3); uncommon. 4 1/2 x 6 7/16 in. Both prints signed in the plate lower right. These are fine impressions with full margins. Fine condition. The first is an impression of the 2nd state. The second is Goodfriends's third state showing the drypoint cancellation marks and a large owl design in the upper right. Buhot seemed to like depicting women and donkeys as the subject appears in other prints. This pair makes for an interesting combination. Signed impressions of this print are rare. Based on the pencil dedication it appears that this is the impression illustrated in Catalogue Number Four (1986) by C. & J. Goodfriend, page 35, # 90. $4,000 |
