Petunia Woodcut printed in colors, 1907-08, Vasseur 51, edition unknown. 7 x 4 5/8 in. Signed in pencil. This is a good, subtle impression printed on thin wove paper. The margins are narrow and the print is attached at the top corners to a support sheet, probably done by the artist. The condition is very good apart from glue spots from the verso showing at the top two corners in the front. This is a rare, early pencil signed proof without the chop mark which later appears in the lower left corner of the image. There was a small edition published in The Bibliophile Magazine, 1, no. 6 (August 1908) facing page 287. Those show a circular chop mark which is different from Hopkins' red peapod chop. This impression is cited in the catalogue raisonne'. $2,650 |
