High in the Pyrenees Mountains (Hautes Pyrenees, bergenlandschap) Woodcut, 1922, Nijmeegs Museum catalogue E19, edition unknown. 15 x 19 1/2 in. Signed in the block with the artist's monogram, lower left. This is a fine, luminous impression printed on tissue-thin Japanese paper. The margins are full and the condition is very good. (There's soft creasing here and there as a result of the printing process.) Graadt van Roggen was an etcher and woodcut artist and his best work, as shown here, is decidedly expressionist in nature. A few of his woodcuts were printed in color. He lived and worked in Bergen and he was a deaf from an early age. Ex-collection: Nijmeegs Museum, Holland. SOLD |
