Seated Woman looking into the Mirror (Femme à son miroir) - MANUEL ROBBE
Medium: aquatint in colors printed à la poupée
MANUEL ROBBE
French, (1872-1936)
Aquatint in colors printed à la poupée, circa 1900, edition unknown. 15 5/8 x 11 in. Signed in ink in the upper left corner. This is a fine impression with full margins. (There are a few spots of foxing in the margins and an old paper hinge running the length of the sheet along the right edge.) This is a subtle and enticing work. Robbe's painterly approach to making aquatints makes him well suited to employ such dramatic inking. The print is inscribed on the verso "très rare." This print is not recorded in over two hundred entries in the Merrill Chase catalogues and Bibliothèque Nationale publications. (We thank Andy Fitch for clarifying our earlier description of this exceptional work.) Provenance: Michel Romand (1929-2013), the great grandson of Edmond Sagot (1857-1917). $2,500
