This is a fine impression with dynamic, rich colors. The margins are modest but this is the full sheet as printed. The condition is fine. This impression is numbered "9" in pencil. This delightful print by this Irish artist has a distinctive arts and crafts flavor. His work often depicts these picturesque fairy tale settings with children at play. He was born in Doone, Althlone, and studied at Kingsley College, Devon. In Paris he studied with Jean-Paul Laurens and Benjamin Constant. SOLD |

This is a fine, luminous impression with fresh colors. The paper is a sturdy Japanese and the margins are full. Apart from mild toning in the margins, the condition is very good overall. Like the brothers Detmold, the Cavendish twins both worked on their prints. They were largely self-taught and their work was shown and published by Colnaghi in London. The lovely work was published in Etchings for the Art Union of London by the Etching Club, 1857, Plate 10. (The printed number "10" is just below the image at center.) This is a fine impression printed on chine appliqué. The margins are full and the condition is very good. (There's some darkening at the extreme edges of the sheet, recto, and a few vague toned areas on the verso, and a small spot of foxing outside of the image, recto.) This engaging, poetic work was published as plate 5 in Etchings for the Art Union of London by the Etching Club, 1857.

(There are Pennell's inky finger prints in the margins from the printing process and a narrow old hinge across the top of the sheet.) Construction of the Chapel began in 1503. It's noteworthy for it's pendant fan vault ceiling. $750 |

Here we have a fine impression with full margins. The condition is very good apart from small old hinges at the four corners, verso, and a tiny wrinkle in the lower right corner of the sheet. The catalogue states that only sixty-four impressions are recorded hence this is not a common print. The Vlvata is the longest river within the Czech Republic. Signed, titled and numbered in pencil. This is an especially fine impression with superb, fresh colors. The margins are full and the condition is fine other than for small old hinges at the top corners. (The projected edition here was 100.) "John Platt's colour woodcuts mark a short but important phase in British printmaking; a period when an external and foreign influence stimulated a new decorative and inventive approach to the use of color." (Hilary Chapman, from page 6 of the catalogue raisonné, 1999). This influence, of course, was the art of Japan and Japanese prints in particular. The models for this composition also relate to Platt's sketches for the "Giant Stride." His sisters are on the swing and they are being observed by Platt's daughter and son. SOLD |

This is a superb, luminous impression with full margins. The condition is excellent apart from a small wrinkle in the printing found in the lower right corner. This is an exemplary work by the artist. We acquired it from the artist's estate back in the 1980s, sold it to a New York collector, and now we are pleased to re-offer it. Her floral prints have not been turning up over the last few years. (There's an inscription in the lower left margin by the artist "Ink (?) May '36.) And in the lower right corner, "48", which is possibly related to the edition number. $1,650 |

This is a fine impression with full margins. The condition is fine apart from soft wrinkles in the right margin area. Royds was married to Ernest Lumsden, the well known etcher of the period. She exhibited regularly at the Society of Scottish artists, the Society of Artist Printers and the Graver Printers in Colour. She produced about sixty blockprints and her work has become hard to come by today. SOLD |
