This is a superb impression with full margins. The condition is fine. This outstanding southwestern image was published by the American Color Print Society in 1948. The artist used seven blocks to complete the image.

Woodcut printed in colors, 1947, Patterson 82a, edition 100. 9 3/8 x 14 in. Initialed in the block, lower right, with the artist's monogram. Signed, titled and numbered in pencil. This is a fine, luminous impression with probably the full margins. The condition is very good apart from a few minor traces of an old adhesive here and there in the outer margins not near the image. There's a small paper imperfection just touching the image on the top right side. In the background is Shiprock, a sacred Navajo mountain located in San Juan county, New Mexico. This exceptional woodcut by Hall was originally intended to be printed in an edition of 50, but due to its success, the edition was extended to 100 impressions.

Woodcut, undated (probably about 1930), editon unknown. 7 7/8 x 4 1/4 in. Signed in pencil. Here we have a fine impression printed on fibrous Japanese paper. The margins are full and the condition is fine. (There are two original brown paper hinges at the top corners of the margins, away from the image.) Heijse lived and worked in Middelburg and Amsterdam. He was a student of C. J. W. Nuijs and studied at the Rijksakademie. He also took lessons from Jan Toorop. Heijse was known as a painter and illustrator and his woodcuts are quite well done with a flair for compelling design.

Woodcut, 1971, edition 25. 11 3/4 x 15 3/4 in. Signed, titled, numbered and dated in pencil. This is a fine impression of this rare print. The paper is a thin Japanese and the margins are full. The condition is fine. (There's a small stain in the lower left corner of the margin and a few traces of wrinkles in the margins only.) Jones was born in Lynchburg, VA and was the oldest of twelve siblings. Due to Jim Crow laws, Jones was not able to attend art school in Virginia and instead went to the Art Institute of Chicago to study. He was supported financially as an upcoming artist by the community and studied in Chicago from 1934-36. There he met Charles White and Eldzier Cortor. Jones was active in creating the first black art center in Chicago called the South Side Community Art Center. in 1949, Jones moved to Georgia to start a new art department at Jackson State University. He remained there working until the 1970s.

The margins appear to be full and the condition is fine. Judson was from New York and studied at Pratt Institute. She studied block printing with Allen Seaby in England. Many of her landscape woodcuts were done in rural New York.

The condition is fine apart from the very faintest suggestion of light toning within an earlier mat opening. This was one of twelve prints by Kent used in a national advertising campaign for the American Car and Foundry Company. There's a variant title for this work; "Masthead Diver."

In spite of the large edition this print is not all that common.

Occasional soiling and a few fox marks primarily in the upper margin. This WPA print is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was gifted to them by the New York WPA Administration in 1943. Kent was a native New Yorker raised in the Bronx. She studied at Cooper Union and the New School for Social Research.

For many years she lived at Cowes, Isle of Wight, and maintained a studio there.

Koning was married to the artist, Lou Loeber.

This print was published as part of the WPA program dating from 1935-43 and an impression is found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. La More was from Wisconsin and later taught at the University of Buffalo. He taught at the University of Michigan until his retirement in 1974. This compelling woodcut is one of his best and largest works.

This is a superb impression printed on cream VAN GELDER watermarked paper. The margins are full. The condition is fine apart from just a faint suggestion of light toning within an earlier mat opening. Laage was born in Hamburg and began his printmaking career in 1896. He lived in Paris for many months beginning in 1900 and participated in exhibitions in Vienna and Dresden. He became friendly with Kandinsky, Hans Neumann and Karl Hofer as they exhibited together. Gustave Schiefler published the first catalogue of his woodcuts in 1912 and an article was written about Laage by ER Weiss for Ver Sacrum. Laage is best know for his woodcuts and they range from decidedly expressionist in style to a more realistic approach tinged with stoicism, as seen here. This large, impressive woodcut is one of his most captivating works.

Apart from some slight rippling along the top edge, the condition is fine. This is a large and exceptional print by Laage and early, pre-publication proofs are hard to find.
