Thy Sons and thy Daughters were Eating and Drinking Wine... (Plate 3 of Illustrations of the Book of Job) - WILLIAM BLAKE - engraving

WILLIAM BLAKE
British, (1757-1827)

Engraving, 1823-25, Binyon 108 (iii/III), edition 100. 8 1/2 x 6 5/8 in. Signed in the plate, lower right. This is a very fine impression from the original edition published by John Linnell in 1826. The margins are full and the paper bears the following watermark: J WHATMAN TURKEYMILL 1825. The condition overall is quite good; there's a rust speck showing in the paper, lower right, and a tiny paper imperfection/thin spot just above the borderline at top. Ex-collection: Weyhe Gallery, New York (and so inscribed in pencil, verso). (Note on the edition: there were 215 impressions printed with the word "proof" at the lower right in addition to 100 impressions without the word "proof".)      SOLD
