Leidsegracht at the Herengracht (Amsterdam) - FRANS EVERBAG - etching and aquatint printed in colors

FRANS EVERBAG
Dutch, (1877-1947)

Etching and aquatint printed in colors, circa 1937, Vervoorn 39 (variant), edition unknown. 15 1/4 x 19 7/8 in. Signed and titled in pencil. This is a superb impression with fresh colors. The margins are full and the condition is very good. (There's just a faint suggestion of toning within an early mat opening.) This large work is one of several panoramic views of Amsterdam which Everbag created. He's arguably the finest Dutch etcher who worked with printed color during the first half of the 20th century. His art is decorative yet highly refined, with a keen sense of color and composition. This print is a state variant not described by Vervoorn, with the boat in the foreground now facing left.      SOLD
