The Cabstand (Une Matinée d'Hiver au Quai de l'Hôtel-Dieu) - FELIX BUHOT - etching, drypoint and traces of aquatint and roulette

FELIX BUHOT
French, (1847-1898)

Etching, drypoint and traces of aquatint and roulette, 1876, Bourcard-Goodfriend 123 (x/XV), edition unknown. 9 3/8 x 12 9/16 in. Signed and dated in the plate, lower left. This a fine, luminous impression printed with a nicely modulated plate tone throughout. The margins are wide (2 1/2") and probably full and the paper bears a VAN GELDER watermark. The condition is excellent other than for a small repaired tear in the lower right margin, well away from the image. This iconic 19th century French etching is shown here in a desirable state and impression, without the extreme dark murkiness of some of the impressions printed. Buhot's large red owl stamp (Lugt 977) shows along the platemark on the left side.      SOLD
