The Cabstand (Une Matinée d'Hiver au Quai de l'Hôtel-Dieu) - FELIX BUHOT
Medium: etching, drypoint and traces of aquatint and roulette
Etching, drypoint and traces of aquatint and roulette, 1876, Bourcard-Goodfriend 123 (x/XV), edition unknown. 9 3/8 x 12 9/16 in. Signed and dated in the plate, lower left. This a fine, luminous impression printed with a nicely modulated plate tone throughout. The margins are wide (2 1/2") and probably full and the paper bears a VAN GELDER watermark. The condition is excellent other than for a small repaired tear in the lower right margin, well away from the image. This iconic 19th century French etching is shown here in a desirable state and impression, without the extreme dark murkiness of some of the impressions printed. Buhot's large red owl stamp (Lugt 977) shows along the platemark on the left side.
