Le Cerisier de la Plante-à-Biau (The Cherry Tree at La Plante-à-Biau) - THEODORE ROUSSEAU - cliché-verre

THEODORE ROUSSEAU
French, (1812-1867)

Cliché-verre , 1855, Melot R5, only state. edition 150. 9 1/4 x 11 1/2 in. Signed in the plate, lower left. This is a fine impression with full margins. The condition is excellent. This is one of forty cliché-verre plates acquired from Bouasse-Lebel including works by Corot, Daubigny, Delacroix, Millet and Rousseau. They were acquired by by the firm of Sagot-Le Garrec and published in 1921. Each impression, as with this one, bears the stamp of Sagot-Le Garrec (Lugt 1766a) and is numbered. (Our impression is signed in pencil with, "Essai" ('trial proof'). Early, lifetime impressions of these works are nearly impossible to fine. This a especially fine example of one of only six graphic works by Rousseau, two of which were the cliché-verre glass plate process.      $1,400
