California 2. Mt. Shasta - FRANK MORLEY FLETCHER
Medium: woodcut printed in colors
FRANK MORLEY FLETCHER
British/American, (1866-1949)
Woodcut printed in colors, circa 1930, edition 100. 11 1/4 x 15 7/8 in. Signed and titled in pencil. This is a superb, luminous impression printed on Japanese paper. The margins are wide and probably full. Fine condition. This is one of the truly outstanding color woodcuts produced in America during this period. Fletcher moved from England and settled in Santa Barbara. He became an American citizen. This work is illustrated on page 22 of Arthur Wesley Dow and American Arts & Crafts by Nancy Green and Jessie Poesch (1999). Their impression varies enormously from ours in the choice of colors. The suggestion quite clearly is a change of seasons depicting most likely winter and
summer (our impression). The intended edition was probably never printed in full as this print is not common.
