Etching, 1882, Andrew pg. 45; edition 21 plus proofs. 13 x 8 7/8 in. Signed in the plate and signed in pencil below the image. This superb impression is dedicated to J.Carroll Beckwith, the artist, "With best wishes-to Mr. and Mrs. Beckwith on their third anniversary, June 1, 1890." The margins are trimmed to the platemark at top and sides, a la Whistler. The condition is excellent. This large, outstanding work is plate #5 from Bacher's "Etchings of Venice". Other impressions are in the Library of Congress, The Cleveland Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago. Provenance: the artist to J. Carroll Beckwith, to Beckwith's goddaughter, by descent through the family to her grandson. This is a very rare print and it shows the artist at his best as an etcher.      SOLD
