Mezzotint, 1830, Shirley 5 (i/V); Barnard 17 (ii/V), edition unknown. 7 1/4 x 9 7/8 in. A fine, early impression printed on chine applique of this, Shirley's rare first state. In very good condition. Probably the full margins. This print was engraved by David Lucas after the painting by Constable. "A Mill" depicts Dedham mill which was owned by Constable's father.

Mezzotint, circa 1843, Shirley 48; progress proof c, total edition from the plate unknown 7 1/4 x 9 3/8 in. Unsigned. An outstanding proof impression before all letters. Printed on India paper printed as a chine applique, prior to the first issue by Lucas in 1843. This proof is before both the path to the cottage at right and the woman at left were made lighter. There is some staining in the margins but the image is fine. Extremely rare and one of Constable's finest views.
