Wrestlers Etching, 1936-37, edition 25. 6 x 9 in. Signed, numbered and titled in pencil. This is a fine, rich impression with full margins. The condition is quite good apart from the trace of a modest, soft crease in the the lower right corner margin, just outside the image. Brown was a Cleveland WPA printmaker who taught at the Karamu House with Hughie Lee-Smith and Charles Sallee. His work is discussed in the Reba and Dave Williams catalogue, Alone in A Crowd, Prints of the 1930s-40s by African American Artists. SOLD |
