Painter, etcher, ceramic artist, illustrator and designer extraordinaire, Coppens was the subject of a major retrospective in 2001 with an excellent catalogue.

Stormy weather off the coast of Belgium
Etching, circa 1910-20, edition unknown. 9 3/4 x 14 1/4 in. Signed in pencil, lower right. This is a fine, atmospheric impression printed on light cream laid paper. The margins are full and the condition is excellent. Coppens experimented with different ink colors and this may have grown out of his early experiments in symbolist paintings and later, during his especially productive art nouveau period. He rarely dated his prints. A few were published in conjunction with the Sociéte des Aquafortistes Belges. His 2001 retrospective was held at the Centre d'Art de Rouge-Cloître (Auderghem) in Belgium.
