La Chasse (The Hunt)
Woodcut, circa 1910-11, edition perhaps 100. 8 1/4 x 25 3/8 in. Titled in the block in the lower left. Signed in pencil, lower right. This is a fine, early impression of Dufy's most impressive woodcut. This work is from the series of four woodcuts called "Quatre Bois," done after his return to Paris from Munich. The condition is very good and the sheet has been backed with thin Japan paper. The margins are wide. There's a later, common edition of 220 with the stamp ATELIER printed below the image. Dufy designed a furniture fabric called "La Chasse" for Bianchini-Férier around 1920. This work is beautifully framed.
