The condition is excellent and the margins are full. Landacre's nude studies are remarkable for their design and execution. Forest Girl Wood engraving, 1933-36, Lehman page 63, edition perhaps 200. 8 1/2 x 6 in. Signed in the block, lower center, initialed in the block, lower right, and dated in the block lower left. This is a superb impression on white wove paper with full margins. Excellent condition. This impression is signed in pencil but is not from the first numbered edition of sixty. In 1933, Landacre added his copyright symbol and this was for the edition of 150-200 for the American Artists Group print editions. These impressions are normally not signed in pencil. However, the artist would occasionally sign a few of these at a slightly extra cost. That is what we have here. SOLD |

Forest Girl Wood engraving, 1933-36, Wien 127, edition about 225. 8 1/2 x 6 in. Initialed in the block, lower right corner. Signed and dated "1936" in the block along the bottom of the image. This is a fine, rich impression with full margins. The condition is generally fine apart from two skillful repairs in the outer margins and traces of an old tape adhesive in the upper right corner, verso. Forest Girl was one of nine wood engravings conceived for a new edition of Green Mansions by W.H. Hudson.
Rima is the reclining woman depicted in this image. This impression is from the 1936 edition published by the American Artists Group, most of which were not signed in pencil. $1,500 |

Rima Wood engraving, 1933-1936, Wien 126, edition about 225. 8 1/2 x 6 in. Signed with the artist's mongram, lower left. Dated 1936 in the block, lower center. This is a fine, rich impression with full margins. The condition is also fine. Three years after the artist printed this work in a signed edition of 60, he authorized the American Artist's Group (AAG) to publish the print in an unsigned edition of about 225 impression. According to Wien, the first edition, published in 1933, was not completed. Landacre conceived of Rima and eight other wood engravings for a new edition of W.H. Hudson's novel "Green Mansions". Rima appears as a forest nymph and the protagonist, Abel, is shown hiding in the upper left corner. Only his face is evident. $1,500 |
