Chartres Cathedral Etching and drypoint, 1913, Delteil 112 (v/V), edition 65. 16 1/2 x 11 3/8 in. Signed in the plate, lower left. Signed and numbered "31" in pencil. Here we have a fine impression with full margins. The condition is fine. (There's an old paper hinge running the length of the sheet, verso, along the right edge.) The print was published by Sagot, Paris. This famous cathedral is a masterpiece of French high gothic architecture. It was mostly constructed between 1194 and 1220 and at least five cathedrals have stood on this site, each replacing an earlier building damaged by fire or war. Chartres is the only European cathedral to have preserved this much original stained glass. This is widely considered to be Leheutre's finest print. $950 |
