Boats in the Harbor Etching and aquatint printed in colors, undated (circa 1915-1920), edition 200. 11 5/8 x 15 1/2 in. Signed and numbered in pencil. This is a stellar, atmospheric impression printed a la poupée on a cream wove paper. The margins are full and the condition is fine. Masui (as he was know) was a painter, pastelist and printmaker. He was member of le la Société Royale Belge des Aquarellistes (1913). His graphic work is decidely painterly by nature and a large collection of his prints, almost complete, is in the Cabinet des Estampes in Brussels. Masui did many book illustrations, as well, including works for the celebrated Légende de Thyl Ulenspiegel. SOLD |

Men Scything (Les Faucheurs) Lithograph, 1930s, edition 50 9 x 8 5/8 in. Signed in pencil, lower right. This is a fine dark impression printed on VAN GELDER ZONEN cream laid paper. The margins are full and the condition is excellent. This print is from the set of six lithographs called "Les Faucheurs". Masui-Castrique was a stellar draughtsman and was essentially self-taught as a painter and printmaker. He was active as an illustrator for such works as La Legende de Thyl Ulenspiegel and La Vielle Flandre. Furthermore, on the diplomatic front, he was the Belgian ambassador to London from 1915-1919.
