Bleeker Street Follies Woodcut (linoleum cut?), 1927, edition 30. 10 1/8 x 12 1/2 in. Initialed in the block, lower right. Signed, dated, numbered and titled in pencil. This is a superb impression with probably the full margins. The condition is fine. This festive night scene depicts this well known street in Greenwich Village. This block print is not common. SOLD |

Coney Island Woodcut (linoleum cut?), 1927, edition 30. 7 x 12 1/4 in. Initialed in the block, lower right. Signed, dated, titled and numbered in pencil. Here we have a fine impression with small margins. The condition is also fine. Born in Michigan, Meissner won a scholarship to the Art Students League after WWI. He was a gifted painter but he achieved fame primarily from his various blockprints. He resided and worked during the summers at Monhegan, ME for most of his life and he also produced several outstanding prints in New York, the Great Smokey Mountains and the Arizona Desert. He received several prizes for his prints over the years and his work is included in in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New York Public Library, the Library of Congress and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This print is located in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. $1,800 |
