Bridge at Mechelen (Belgium)
Woodcut printed in color, 1901, Nieuwenkamp H23, edition unknown. 8 1/8 x 14 3/4 in. Initialed in the block with the monogram and signed and titled in pencil below the image. This is a fine impression of this rare and important woodcut. The margins are substantial and the condition is good. (There's a skillful repaired tear just into the image at left. There's thinning in the right margin verso, center, and traces of old adhesive on the four corners, only evident on the verso. This print is a superb example of Dutch art and design circa 1900. "Nieuwe Kunst" is the Dutch term for this art nouveau style.

Woodcut printed in colors, 1905, Hubert H 60, Nieuwenkamp H 60; edition unknown. 8 x 6 1/8 in. Initialed in the block in the sky at top. Signed and titled in pencil, below. This is a fine impression with full margins. The condition is excellent. Nieuwenkamp produced very few multicolor woodcuts and this print is exceptional. Signed impressions are rare.

View of Bruges (Gezicht op Brugge) - NIEUWENKAMP

View of Bruges (Gezicht op Brugge)
Woodcut, 1900, Nieuwenkamp H21, edition unknown. 6 1/4 x 12 3/8 in. Signed and dated in the block. Signed and titled in pencil. This is a fine impression printed on cream-colored Japanese paper. The margins are full and the condition quite good. Nieuwenkamp also produced an etched version of this engaging, beautifully composed subject. We don't know how many were printed, but this edition is certainly small, probably fewer than fifty impressions. In fact, a careful review of the catalogue raisonne shows that most of the artist's prints were printed in small numbers. Nieuwenkamp was a master craftsman and this work reflects his great skills as a woodcut artist during the Dutch art nouveau era, a movement referred to in Holland as "De Nieuwe Kunst."
