Children Playing Monotype, 1933, 5 1/2 x 3 1/2 in. Signed in the image with the artist's monogram and signed and dated lower right in pencil. Here we have a fine impression of this wonderful print. The condition is excellent. Van der Hoef lived and worked in Amsterdam and Brussels (1897-1904). The monotype was not a preferred medium in Holland during the early 20th century which makes this print all the more interesting. Another similar print is currently available. SOLD |

Statue of a Japanese Lady in Front of a Mirror Woodcut, 1920s, edition unknown. 16 1/2 x 17 3/4 in. Signed in pencil and inscribed, "houtsnede," (woodcut). This is a fine impression rich in contrasts. The paper is a thin Japanese and the margins are apparently full. The condition is very good apart from minor wrinkling and light foxing here and there in the margins. Van der Hoef was born in Amsterdam and studied with Frouke van Rossem. He worked in Brussels from 1897-1904, studied at the Academy and later worked in the Hague. He was a gifted painter and he produced many woodcuts and monotypes. This is a very good example of his work. $800 |
