Two Birds Woodcut, 1930-40, edition unknown. 9 x 9 1/4 in. Signed in pencil. This is a fine, rich impression printed on thin Japanese paper. The margins are wide and probably full. The condition is fine apart from a minor streak located in the breast of the bird at the right. Cut in the block the lower right is VAEVO; (de Vereeniiging tot Bevordering van het Aesthetisch Element in het Voortgezet Onderwijs, voor schoolversiering.) In other words, The Society for Promotion of the Aesthetic Element in Secondary Education. A number of talented artists from the period were involved with this project in bringing fine art to schools. Veringa was a student of Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita. $550 |

Two Birds in the Moonlight Woodcut, undated (probably about 1935-40), edition unknown (perhaps 50). 6 1/2 x 9 3/8 in. Initialed in the block, lower left. Signed in pencil lower right. Here we have a fine impression printed on thin Japanese paper. The margins are substantial but possibly trimmed. The condition is fine. Born in Haarlem, Veringa was a student of Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita and this influence is clearly shown in this lovely woodcut. SOLD |
