Cineraria
Block print printed in colors, possibly 1936, Barton 48; from a small edition, possibly 50. 8 x 10 7/8 in. Signed in pencil. This is a superb, luminous impression with full margins. The condition is excellent apart from a small wrinkle in the printing found in the lower right corner. This is an exemplary work by the artist. We acquired it from the artist's estate back in the 1980s, sold it to a New York collector, and now we are pleased to re-offer it. Her floral prints have not been turning up over the last few years. (There's an inscription in the lower left margin by the artist "Ink (?) May '36.) And in the lower right corner, "48", which is possibly related to the edition number.

Columbines
Woodcut printed in colors, 1930s, Barton 39, edition perhaps 25-50. 7 3/8 x 6 1/4 in. Signed in pencil. This is a superb impression with rich relief showing from the pressure of the blocks. This is the full sheet although the left margin is narrow. There's some printing ink in the margins which is so very typical of her work. Provenance: The Old Print Shop, NY.

Dandelions
Woodcut printed in colors, undated (circa 1925), Barton 31, edition perhaps 50. 7 3/8 x 6 1/4 in. Signed in pencil and with the annotation along the top margin, "S.A.P." Here we have a fine vibrant impression with fresh colors. The margins are modest and there are areas of printing ink along the two sides and the bottom, away from the image. "Dandelions" is one of her finest prints and her work, in general, is getting harder to find.

Royds woodcuts often vary in colors which is part of their appeal. Her floral prints are increasingly hard to find.

Grapes
Woodcut prointed in colors, undated (circa 1920-1930), Barton 65, edition unknown. 8 1/2 x 10 in. Signed in colored pencil, lower left. This is a fine impression with full margins. The condition is fine apart from soft wrinkles in the right margin area. Royds was married to Ernest Lumsden, the well known etcher of the period. She exhibited regularly at the Society of Scottish artists, the Society of Artist Printers and the Graver Printers in Colour. She produced about sixty blockprints and her work has become hard to come by today.

Woodcut printed in colors, undated (circa 1920-25), Barton 47, edition unknown. 8 7/8 x 7 1/2 in. Signed in pencil. This is a superb impression with vibrant colors. The margins are full and the condition is fine. (There's a small, soft crease in the lower left corner margin, not affecting the image.) Royds produced seventeen floral woodcuts during her career. Orange Tiger Lilies is among the best.

Woodcut printed in colors, 1930s, Barton 45, edition unknown. 5 1/4 x 5 3/8 in. Signed and numbered in pencil "45". This is a superb impression with rich colors. The background is printed as a monotype which is highly unusual for the artist The margins are narrow and the condition is fine. This impression came from the estate of the artist. We sold this very impression back in the 1980s and are pleased to have it again.

Woodcut printed in colors, undated, circa 1910-20, Barton 4, edition unknown. 4 3/8 x 9 1/8 in. Signed in pencil. This is a fine, luminous impression printed on a light cream, thin laid paper. The margins are full and the condition is excellent. This is most likely a study of the artist's daughter, Marjorie. Royds exhibited regularly with the Society of Scottish Artists, the Society of Artist Printers, and Graver Printers in Color. She studied with Frank Morley Fletcher.

The Red Mug
Woodcut printed in colors, undated (1920s-1930s), Barton 57, small edition. 5 3/8 x 5 7/8 in. Signed in red-orange pencil. This is a very fine impression with substantial margins. The condition is fine apart from traces of old hinges at the top of the sheet. This lovely print is rich with embossing (gaufrage). Royds' prints are consistently well-crafted and inspired. She produced about twenty floral block prints in all and they remain fresh and appealing to this day.

Woodcut printed in colors, undated (circa 1920-30), Barton 49, edition unknown but perhaps around fifty. 8 1/4 x 9 1/4 in. Signed and titled in pencil. This is a superb impression of this uncommon print. This impression is rich with embossing akin to the woodcuts of Margaret Patterson. The margins are full but somewhat narrow on three sides. The condition is very good apart from three small printing wrinkles in the margins not affecting the image. This is an exemplary work by the artist.
